The cord never breaks: it runs up both sides of each stem, turns at the apex and comes back down, and it also outlines the inner opening of the initial, which is framed by the same row of beads. The front face is recessed below that edge, so the letter forms a tray with high sides where the light in the room falls in bands and changes with the time of day. The wider beads at the bottom support the piece and keep it steady.
